Sustainable stands: reusable constructions and recyclable materials

Sustainable stands: reusable constructions and recyclable materials

Increasingly, we are building stands that are based on a sustainable appearance using many natural materials. To ensure that the sustainable appearance is genuinely sustainable, we carefully consider the footprint, reuse, and recycling of all components of the stand. The choice of materials is essential in this context.

In the exhibition stands we design, we are integrating more and more sustainable solutions. We have compiled a list of things to consider for each stand component to work towards a more sustainable stand:

Floor:
As the base of a stand, we use special leveling floors. These have been in use for years and are deployed repeatedly at many exhibitions each year. They are excellently reusable! As a top layer, you might choose to apply a ceramic tile that has a metal look and shine. The advantage is that this is not a one-time solution! And it is a good alternative to the widely used printed vinyl. Printed vinyl is glued to a chipboard floor and is a one-time, non-sustainable solution. A tile floor is a more sustainable alternative and looks even better!

Walls:
For the construction of the back wall, we use beMatrix frames. This is an extremely sustainable aluminum building system. We have been building eco-friendly exhibition stands with this for decades. The finishing of the frames is made from thin material, minimizing the amount of material used. Most of these materials can be reused for future events. We also use as much natural material as possible for the finishing of the various components.

Ceiling:
The front of a stand can be made from components that we can reuse after use. The (illuminated) elements can be easily disassembled. For the ceiling, we use slats, which we developed in collaboration with Kartent to give the feeling of a real wooden beam. However, it is not, and therefore, it is extremely recyclable after use.

Furniture:
We use as much sustainable furniture as possible that we can re-skin for every occasion. After use, the graphic layer is removed, and the furniture is ready for future use.

Appearance matched with execution
By choosing sustainable materials, we sometimes step off the beaten path and take the risk that the end result may be somewhat different from what is typically expected at exhibitions. Additionally, this can sometimes lead to imperfections or inconveniences. However, by opting for these sustainable solutions, we achieve the execution for exhibition participation that aligns with the “sustainable” principle. Thus, the desired appearance matches the most sustainable execution possible.
